Our Sustainable Community Programs

Three Springs has implemented several programs in which neighbors and community members alike can contribute to the sustainability of their community. Take a look at the some of our recent programs and if you have an suggestions, we would love to hear them! Add them to the comment box on this page.

Nike Re-Use a Shoe Program

We’re certain you have a few pairs of sneakers in your closet- that are serving one sole purpose- taking up closet space! Why not bring them to Three Springs for the Nike Re-Use a Shoe Program.  Three Springs will collect old sneakers, any brand, and send them in to Nike. Nike grinds them up and re-uses them in playground and sport surfaces in communities around the world.  To date Three Springs has collected nearly 1000 pairs of sneakers.  Bring old sneakers to the Information Center at Three Springs 175 Mercado St. Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.

Community Garden

This fall, residents of the Tierra Verde Neighborhood will delight in the fresh tastes of the season.  Ripe tomatoes, fresh picked squash, and great big carving pumpkins are just a few of the delicacies that were planted and will soon be enjoyed by the neighbors of Three Springs.  Residents are encouraged to bring kitchen scraps to the community compost pile. Over time, these scraps will be returned to the earth giving the next field of greens the vital nutrients it needs. Recycled mulch from Pheonix Recycling has been laid as ground cover over the walk-able areas of the garden and Kelly Hurford has reclaimed steel to create the beautiful Sunflower Garden Gates that enclose Three Springs Community Garden.

Reclaimed Artwork

Artist Kelly Hurford has created several installation pieces that are permanently on display at Three Springs.  These include: Cattails and Dragonflies at the center of the Roundabouts, the Sunflower Gates at the Community Garden and the Bicycle racks- all of which have been designed utilizing reclaimed steel. As a sustainable development, Three Springs promotes recycling, re-using products, and reducing the burden upon our environment.

The developers of Three Springs are leading efforts to create a sustainable community: meeting needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Neighborhoods are built green with energy efficient appliances, construction waste is recycled, and land is preserved as open space. This, in addition to the programs listed above, promotes sustainability and creates a neighborhood that looks better and lasts longer.
